Eero Tiittula: Exchange

Artsi is presenting artist Eero Tiittula’s performance work Exchange (Vaihto), which is built around encounters between the artist and participants from January to May 2027. During these encounters, held at Vantaa City Hall, Tiittula creates quick portraits of the participants. However, the essence of the work is not the finished portraits, but the encounter itself, the exchange of thoughts, and the time shared together. The portraits serve as traces of these moments and make the interaction visible to others as well.

The portraits created during the encounters will be installed in City Hall in place of the traditional portraits of city managers. The work symbolically places residents at the heart of democracy and reminds us that the faces of power are not only those of decision-makers, but also those of the people affected by those decisions. The portraits will gradually move from City Hall into the Artsi exhibition Fragile Surface, where the empty spaces reserved for them will be filled as the exhibition progresses.

After the exhibition, the portraits will be given to the participants. They can be collected from the museum at a time that will be announced separately.
